Moran family returns to aged care in the Hunter

Presbyterian aged care NSW & ACT leaving the sector provides opportunity for legacy family to return to the Hunter Region.
Stockton, NSW, March 2023 - Moran Health Care Group have announced that they have reentered the aged care sector within the Hunter through the purchase of Presbyterian Aged Care NSW & ACT’s Wescott residential aged care facility in Stockton. The Moran family previously held aged care facilities in Mount Hutton, Port Stephens, and Raymond Terrace before selling part of the portfolio to AMP.
Shane Nicholson from Commercial Collective was exclusively engaged by Presbyterian Aged Care NSW & ACT to take the Stockton facility to the market via an off-market expressions of interest campaign. “With the large growth in aged care requirements in the Newcastle and Hunter region, the quality facility was highly sought after with Moran Health Care Group being the successful purchaser” Mr. Nicholson said. The net price of 10,550,000 dollars, was agreed upon.
This 122-bed facility has recently undergone a multimillion-dollar refurbishment to meet the exacting standards of modern-day resident care and lifestyle and to create a higher standard of working conditions for its close to 50 staff members.
The facility will now be referred to as Moran Stockton. The name Wescott was previously held by the facility in honour of Mr. Eric Scott who provided the funds necessary to purchase the property. Mr. Scott owned Scott’s Department Store, later to become David Jones Hunter Street now repurposed to the QT Hotel and was concerned at the lack of accommodation for aged people around Newcastle. The facility was named Wescott in memory of his parents William and Edith Scott. It was passed on to The Church of England and eventually Presbyterian Aged Care NSW & ACT.
